Carroll County is perhaps the most well-known county on the west side of Georgia, and for good reason. The Zachos Team loves Carroll County because its central position between Atlanta and Alabama makes it a great middle ground for those wishing to travel. In addition, it also offers plenty of its own features and attractions, from downtown to the outdoors. Here are just a few of those.

Downtown Carrollton offers a variety of free public events, many of which are located at The AMP. Located right off of Adamson Square, the AMP hosts movies, live music, and other special events right in the center of town. The square itself is home to many historic buildings and restaurants, making it a prime destination even outside of regular events. One such store is Horton’s Books and Gifts, which holds the impressive title of Georgia’s oldest bookstore. A visit to Adamson Square can be anything from a relaxing day of shopping to a night out on the town.

Carroll County offers several parks to explore like McIntosh Reserve and John Tanner Park, creating plenty of greenspace and natural beauty for its residents to enjoy. Many of these parks include campsites so that your family can experience the great outdoors just minutes from your home. Couple that with the availability of RV sites, shelters, and more, which all work in tandem to ensure that you and your family have the correct amenities no matter what your desired level of comfort is. These parks all offer the expected draws of outdoor recreation, including hiking trails and swimming.

The Carrollton GreenBelt is yet another outdoor draw. It boasts the title of the longest paved loop trail in Georgia, allowing residents to take advantage of 18 miles worth of trails. Residents may enjoy biking, running, or just taking a stroll around the specially made facilities. This trail intersects the Hobbs’ Farm Park disc golf course, which has won awards and been recognized as one of the best disc golf courses in the country. The GreenBelt also passes by Lake Carroll, letting you experience a serene view of the waterfront.

For those interested in a more involved adventure, Historic Banning Mills is the place to be. The park was founded in hopes of preserving the surrounding ecosystems, but has now evolved into a full-on getaway destination for families. The park holds two Guinness World Records: Longest Zip Wire Course and Tallest Free-Standing Artificial Climbing Wall. In addition to these impressive feats, Banning Mills is home to all-terrain SWINCAR tours, horseback riding, kayaking, nature shows, and more. The park holds week-long day camps for youth during the summer, meaning you won’t have to travel far to find an engaging opportunity for your children when school is out.

If you're looking for more indoor activities, the Shot Spot shooting range is a solid choice. It holds the prestigious title of being a five-star shooting range, the only range in Georgia to fall under this category. Despite being a family owned business, Shot Spot doesn’t hold back in its quality, boasting over eighteen thousand square feet of space to practice target shooting. Seasoned shooters can take advantage of the range, while less experienced visitors are welcome to take classes which teach gun safety and self-defense tips.

Carroll County is just west of Douglas, where The Zachos Team calls home.
