The Zachos Team is proud to operate all across Atlanta, but sometimes it can be hard to know where in the city to start looking for what you need. We’ll be going through each section of the city to let you know exactly what to expect, and today we’re covering Southside.
Southside Atlanta covers the East Point, College Park, and Hapeville areas. Further south than the major attractions of Midtown and central Atlanta areas, they unfortunately don’t intersect with the Beltline at all. However, the area offers a smattering of its own charm.
The main draw of the south side of Atlanta is undoubtedly Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Claiming to be “the busiest and most efficient airport in the world,” the site has been recognized with numerous awards and creates plenty of opportunity in the surrounding area. It’s a powerhouse of the surrounding city, and it’s no surprise that much of the area is built with this in mind.
Hartsfield-Jackson Airport is also the state of Georgia’s largest employer, providing over 63,000 jobs on site. Flight crews are always in high demand, and the bustling concourses act as hubs of commercial space. The airport is filled to the brim with restaurants, shopping, and more, creating a city-like atmosphere within the terminals themselves. All of this makes Southside the perfect place for career-centered people, especially taking into account the usual function of the airport itself; as a major international airport, those who frequently travel might enjoy living close by to ease the trip home after a major expedition.
Even so, there’s plenty to do close to home. If you’re not tired of airplanes, the Delta Flight Museum on the edge of the airport shows off restored planes, engines, and the history of flight. The first ever Boeing 747-400 is available to tour here, and you can even walk on the wing itself; definitely not something you can do normally at the airport.
Outside of the impact of flight, another major attraction for the area is Lakewood Amphitheater. A bustling outdoor venue, Lakewood Amphitheater hosts a variety of shows outside of the crowded streets of Atlanta proper, including an impressive lineup of summer concerts. If you’d like to see a show on the south side of town, this is more than likely the spot to do it.
Finally, the neighborhoods of Southside Atlanta themselves offer all their own charms as well. Hapeville, East Point, and College Park all have their own downtown areas typical for Atlanta towns, and the area serves as the location of Woodward Academy, a top-rated private school in the state. There’s plenty to see within the towns, and of course you’ll be a short distance from the center of Atlanta as well, so take some time to see what all the neighborhoods have to offer.
With all this in mind, it’s easy to see why the south side of Atlanta is the place to be for travelers and those interested in aviation. If you would like to buy or sell a home in the south side of Atlanta, including East Point, Hapeville, or College Park, contact The Zachos Team today and we’ll help you through the process.
