Haralson County is an underrated gem of Georgia thanks to the stellar school systems and potential for owning land. The Zachos Team has helped many of our friends move to this wonderful area, and today we’d like to show you just how much it has to offer.
How far is Haralson County from Atlanta? The city of Bremen is to the west just under an hour away, and Tallapoosa is just a few minutes further. That means that even with the isolated feel of the county, you’re still just a short distance from the big city, and even closer to many attractions across the Alabama state line.
Top Attractions in Haralson County
Downtown Bremen
A typical Georgia downtown, Bremen’s central square is located right alongside the railroad. Visitors can enjoy the various shops located up and down the street as well as a fountain and murals along the sides of the buildings. Regular annual events are normally hosted here as well.
Blue Devil Family Park and Bremen City Schools
The Blue Devil Family Park on the east side of Bremen is a quiet park featuring tennis courts, a baseball diamond, and more. The park is available to visit anytime, but it’s primarily used by the Bremen school system. Bremen City Schools are among the top rated in the region; when moving to Bremen, you’ll get a private school experience within the public education system. If you’re looking to put your kids through a quality education experience, these schools should be high on your list in what to look for.
Standpipe Park, Tallapoosa
For an offbeat experience right outside of town, Standpipe Park in Tallapoosa is the place to be. Centralized around an old water system, the historic landmark now holds a huge Deodar cedar tree as well as art installations. The art pieces, many of them wooden carvings, were placed by local artists to beautify the park. You can see these alongside the “Peacock Pavilion,” a nice place to relax in the company of the unique art pieces. Standpipe Park is free for entry, and is located right on Highway 78 at the intersection with Michigan Avenue; look for the Standpipe Water Tower and Tallapoosa Train Park.
Veterans Memorial and Medal of Honor Park
Another landmark of Tallapoosa, the Veterans Memorial and Medal of Honor Park stands as a solemn memorial to American veterans. Situated on the outskirts of Tallapoosa, this park holds six audio sites to explain several different memorials on the site, including one dedicated to 9/11. Visitors can also see replicas of military tanks and planes close up, a unique sight for the area. The park is free for entry and is open from 7am to 9pm every day.
West Georgia Museum of Tallapoosa
Finally, no Georgia town is complete without its own museum, although this one is more unique than most. In addition to exhibits on local history, the West Georgia Museum of Tallapoosa features a selection of dinosaur replicas for kids, as well as a room with over 200 mounted birds. This museum is located right next to the Tallapoosa Public Library, pictured above, so you can stop by for some reading before or after your visit. The museum is open from 9am to 4pm most days, and it’s only a couple dollars to enter, so go pay it a visit to learn more about the area.
Needless to say, Haralson County offers plenty of charm even outside its prime location in the state. The potential for owning land as well as top rated school systems gives many other Georgia counties a run for their money.
